What Style of Yoga is Right for Me?

 

Yoga is like a big family tree, with lots of branches and offshoots. In the western world, what we generally refer to as yoga is Hatha Yoga—one of six types of yoga defined in ancient texts. Hatha Yoga is the physical form of yoga, incorporating asanas (poses or postures) and pranayama (breath).

 

Then within the Hatha Yoga family are more than a dozen different styles or schools of yoga, and many more hybrids.

 

It’s easy to get confused and wonder, what style of yoga is right for you?

 

Start with why you want to begin a yoga practice. Are you looking to relax at the end of a day? Become more flexible? Get a full-body, full-sweat workout?

 

Maybe you’re just starting out and you’re not sure if you can get your body to do some of the poses—look at the classes for beginners and seniors (even if you’re not a senior!).

 

Nearly all of our classes at Feeling Groovy Wellness are for any age or fitness level, so you’re sure to feel welcome no matter what class you choose. With more than 20 offerings each week, there’s a yoga style for every body at Feeling Groovy!

 

Browse through the different classes we offer, and then sign up for a class online. Be sure to arrive a few minutes before class begins, so you can check in at the front desk, tuck away your bag and get settled.

 

Notice how your body feels at the end of your yoga session. The session should feel challenging, but not impossibly so. You should feel more relaxed and open, rather than stressed out or overwhelmed.

 

Be Goldilocks! It’s okay to try a few different classes and instructors to find one that’s just right for you.

 

Yoga Perfect for Beginners

Feel Good Yoga is open to all levels. There is meditation, pranayama (breath), and asanas (poses) that cultivate the union of the mind and the body. We’ll find a balance in being strong and letting go, being present and being hopeful, and most importantly, feeling good.

Wednesdays 5:30 pm – 6:45 pm

Thursdays 9:00 am – 10:15 am

 

Restorative Flow Yoga is a great way to unwind, stretch, and rejuvenate the body and mind. You will be guided through a sequence of deep stretches, free-flowing poses and breath work, aimed at enhancing flexibility, relieving any tension or stress and relaxing the mind.

Wednesdays 10:30 am – 11:45 am

 

Rest and Restore Yoga gives you a break from the busy-ness of life. In this class, we hold poses for 3-5 minutes supported with props and allowing access to deeper levels of connective tissue or fascia where were hold patterns of posture. Recommended for all yoga levels from beginner to the advanced practitioner.

Thursdays, 10:30 am – 11:45 am

 

Yoga for Relaxation

Mindful Moves on Mondays is a great way to start your week! Learn how to move your body safely through various poses to create a space of mindfulness. Breathing techniques help decrease stress. By allowing the mind to be cleared, positive affirmations will be shared to increase their effects. All levels are welcome.

Mondays 5:30 pm – 6:45 pm

 

Gentle Yoga & Meditation focuses on relaxing and reviving postures that help quiet the mind and gently rejuvenate the body. This allows for deeper stretching and slower breathing, helping us to move beyond pain, stiffness and injuries to restore greater movement and ease. Class ends with a 15-minute guided meditation.

Tuesdays 7:00 pm – 8:15 pm

Fridays 9:00 am – 10:15 am

Sundays 7 pm – 8:15 pm

 

Good Vibe Yoga & Meditation will enhance your weekend routine with a peaceful yoga flow and breathwork class, that will balance the senses and calm the mind. Each class ends with meditation, providing a wonderful way to prepare for the week ahead.

Thursdays 10:30 am – 11:45 am

Saturdays 9:00 am – 10:15 am

Sundays 9:00 am – 10:15 am

 

Yoga for Strength & Flexibility

Strength Building Yoga focuses on combining strength & flexibility while practicing various poses, and is open to all levels. Poses range from gentle twists and stretches to standing poses to arm balances and inversions. Feel the power that is within you!

Thursdays 5:30 pm – 6:45 pm

 

Shakti Strong Yoga is a unique mix of strength-building power yoga, tribal dance, and breath work. Using movements that activate deep core engagement, we tap into the power of our third chakra which is thought to be the center of our personal strength. Expect lots of intention, sweat, and music that will make you want to move.

Thursdays 9:00 am – 10:15 am

 

Core Yoga is an all-levels class that takes Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga and influences it with various movement disciplines such as Pilates and dance. This is a yoga class with extra emphasis on posture, alignment, core strengthening, gracefulness … and the beauty and joy of moving.

Mondays 10:30 am – 11:45 am

 

Vinyasa Flow Yoga incorporates strength, flexibility, balance, and physical and mental stamina, while offering variations to modify, intensify, or challenge the body and mind! Vinyasa is the most athletic form of yoga, so get ready for a workout!

Tuesdays 5:30 pm – 6:45 pm

Thursdays 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Fridays 10:30 am – 11:45 am

 

Kundalini Yoga includes posture, breath, mental focus, music, mantra, visualization, meditation and deep relaxation. It strengthens the body and promotes flexibility, activating and circulating the life force energy flowing through the body. Each class follows a similar format, beginning with brief explanations and “tuning-in,” followed by warm-ups, an exercise set, deep relaxation, meditation, and closing.

Wednesdays 7:00 pm – 8:45 pm

 

Yoga Perfect for Seniors

Stretch & Strength Chair Yoga can be practiced sitting on a chair or standing using a chair for support. Chairs and props are provided to keep everyone safe and supported; no need to bring a yoga mat. Each student is encouraged to bring a set of light hand weights, and a Stretch Band.

Fridays 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm

 

Take a Seat Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair or standing using a chair for support. Improve your strength, flexibility, and mobility through yoga poses specially adapted for seniors at any level of health and fitness. Chairs and props are provided to keep everyone safe and supported; no need to bring a yoga mat.

Mondays and Wednesdays 9:00 am – 10:00 am

 

Yoga For Kids

Family Yoga & Art is a fantastic place to come together to experience the union of yoga and art with our families! This class will explore a connected theme through stories, songs, yoga, and art. Half of the class will be a hands-on-art project, and half the class will be spent doing physical activity. All ages are welcome.

Saturdays 10:00 am – 11:30 pm
